How to use Talkie, the common questions, and how to reach us.

Contact

Write to support.talkie@ibrahimuzun.com. Tell us your macOS version, your Talkie version (Settings, under About) and whether Talkie came from the Mac App Store or from this website. You can also choose Feedback in Settings, under About.

Getting started

  • Press Option+Space to open Talkie. Type to search, press Return to run the selected row, Command+K to see its actions and Escape to close.
  • Press Command+Comma in the launcher, or type "settings", to open Settings.
  • To dictate, press Fn or Control+Space, speak, and press it again. Settings, under Dictation, changes the key or lets you hold it while you speak.
  • Talkie asks for each permission the first time a feature needs it, and never before.

Common questions

Option+Space does nothing

Another app may already use Option+Space. Talkie then opens Settings, under General, where you can choose another shortcut. Opening Talkie again from Applications also shows the launcher.

Dictated text is not pasted into my app

In the version you download from this website, turn on Talkie in System Settings, under Privacy & Security, then Accessibility. Until then, and in the Mac App Store version, Talkie copies the text and you press Command+V.

The Fn key does not start dictation

The Fn key needs Input Monitoring, which you can turn on from Settings, under Dictation. Also set System Settings, Keyboard, Press Globe key to Do Nothing, so the Mac does not react to Fn as well. Control+Space works in the meantime.

Dictation on macOS 14 or 15

Apple's speech engine needs macOS 26 or later. On earlier versions, install a Whisper model in Settings, under Dictation (about 800 MB, downloaded once).

Dictation in Turkish

Talkie uses a Whisper model for Turkish once you install it in Settings, under Dictation. Until then, on macOS 26 and later, Apple's engine handles Turkish.

AI says "No AI provider is set up yet"

On macOS 26 and later with Apple Intelligence turned on, Talkie uses Apple's on-device model. Otherwise, add your own key for an AI service in Settings, under AI.

Where does my text go when I use AI?

Talkie shows where a request will go before it sends it. The Privacy Policy lists every case.

Translate shows nothing

Translation needs macOS 26 or later, and macOS may first download the language you translate to.

Where are extensions?

Extensions, the extension store and script filters are in the version you download from this website, not in the Mac App Store version.

Removing Talkie

Press Command+Q in the launcher to quit Talkie, then move Talkie from Applications to the Trash. To remove what it kept as well, move its folder to the Trash: for the Mac App Store version, ~/Library/Containers/com.ibrahimuzun.Talkie; for the downloaded version, ~/Library/Application Support/Talkie, and ~/Documents/huggingface if you installed a Whisper model. API keys you entered stay in your Keychain until you remove them in Settings, under AI, or in Keychain Access.

Privacy

Talkie has no account and sends nothing to us. Read the Privacy Policy for what stays on your Mac and what leaves it.
